Detroit Pistons' point guard Reggie Jackson was at Bow Elementary on Tuesday, March 7 to unveil his first Reggie's Literacy Lounge. The Literacy Lounge featured Reggie Jackson-themed wall decals, seating areas for students to read, and bookshelves stocked with 600 age-appropriate books. Upon arrival at Bow Elementary, Jackson was greeted to a chorus of cheers and high-fives from students who lined the hallways, eager to greet the NBA star. After the warm welcome, Jackson headed to the school's library to unveil his Literacy Lounge, greet teachers and administrators, and read to students. After reading, Dr. Darrius, of FM98 WJLB interviewed Jackson about his DETermined to Assist Foundation. Before leaving, Jackson handed DETermined to Assist-themed bookmarks, encouraging the kids to keep reading and learning.
This Literacy Lounge will serve over 500 students at Bow Elementary each year in this permanent reading oasis.

On April 28, Reggie Jackson opened his second Literacy Lounge. This one is located at Thurgood Marshall Elementary. Reggie’s Literacy Lounge has been created to inspire children to sit down with a book, in a welcoming environment, with seating and bookshelves stocked with more than 600 books. Jackson received the honor of reading the first story in the lounge to students. The Literacy Lounge featured Reggie Jackson-themed wall decals, seating areas for students to read, and bookshelves stocked with 600 age-appropriate books.
The permanent Literacy Lounge will serve 650 students every year.
