Detroit Pistons’ point
guard Reggie Jackson welcomed more than 170 guests to the Westin Book Cadillac
Hotel Monday, December 12, 2016 for his inaugural charity event “Pistons and Plates.” The event raised more than $120,000 for Reggie Jackson’s
DETermined to Assist Foundation.
“We’re here tonight to support literacy in Detroit’s inner city schools.
I want to give back to the city that’s given me so much,” said Jackson. “With a
good education these kids can grow up knowing that they can dream big, that
they can be anything they want.”
The funds raised
at the event will support community outreach programs of the DETermined to
Assist Foundation, such as Reggie’s Literacy Lounges. These lounges, which will
be placed in Title I schools in Detroit, will provide students with age
appropriate books and a space designed to make reading fun. The foundation’s
mission is to impact the lives of
low-income children in Detroit by providing them educational opportunities and
resources they otherwise wouldn’t have.
For one night only, Jackson’s Detroit Pistons teammates, including
Andre Drummond, Tobias Harris, Stanley
Johnson, Boban Marjanovic, Ish Smith, Aron Baynes, Henry Ellenson, and Beno
Udrih joined fans for a unique experience featuring a cocktail reception,
world-class cuisine and exciting live and silent auctions.
Dr. Darrius, of FM98 WJLB, served as the evening’s emcee. Brian
Bauhmor, of Pacific Coast Auctioneer, was the evening’s auctioneer.
