DETermined to Assist Foundation Opens Seventh Literacy Lounge at Detroit’s Marquette Elementary-Middle School

|DETROIT (September 20, 2018) – On Wednesday morning, Pistons
Guard Reggie Jackson paid the students at Marquette Elementary-Middle School a
visit to unveil his seventh Literacy Lounge in the Greater Detroit community.
Sponsored by Farm Bureau, the latest Literacy Lounge features beanbag chairs, basketball-themed
furnishings, and multiple shelves filled with more than 600 age-appropriate
books. The DETermined to Assist Foundation even revealed a new design for the
|Reggie arrived to a warm welcome from the students as they
gave him high fives while he entered the school. During the room’s unveiling,
Reggie spoke to the students and media about the importance of his Foundation’s
mission, which is to foster a love of reading among underserved youth. By
improving literacy rates within Title I schools, Reggie and his DETermined to
Assist Foundation can alter the trajectory of the students’ futures.
|Representatives from Farm Bureau joined Reggie and Ms.
Deborah Sinclair – the school’s principal – to cut the ribbon and officially launch the newest Literacy Lounge. Reggie then read Curious George at the Aquarium to the students in attendance. More
than 600 students will benefit from this Literacy Lounge on an annual basis.
|Wednesday’s Literacy Lounge at Marquette Elementary-Middle
School represents the fourth Literacy Lounge that the DETermined to Assist
Foundation has installed in 2018. Since the first Lounges were installed in
early 2017, the program has impacted 4,919 students in Greater Detroit.
